Where the River Meets the Sea — Antalya

This two-day itinerary follows Antalya's relationship with water: the cascading Düden falls, the long sweep of Konyaaltı beach, the Roman harbour tucked beneath ancient cliffs, and the Lycian ruins of Phaselis where stone columns meet the sea. Old-town Kaleiçi anchors the evenings with mezes, cocktails, and atmosphere drawn from two thousand years of layered history.

Day 1

  1. 09:00

    Arrive & Check In

    ~45 min

Settle into your accommodation in or near Kaleiçi — the old walled quarter is the ideal base, putting the harbour, the Roman gate, and the evening restaurant strip all within walking distance.

  2. 10:00

    Hadrian's Gate

    ~45 min

Begin where the city's Roman chapter is most legible. The triple-arched gate was raised for Emperor Hadrian's visit in 130 AD and still stands at full height, its marble columns and carved reliefs catching the morning light before the tour groups arrive.

  3. 11:00

    Antalya Museum

    ~90 min

A short walk west along the coastal boulevard brings you to one of Turkey's great archaeological collections. Sarcophagi, colossal statuary from Perge, and a hall of gods pulled from the surrounding Lycian cities give real depth to everything you'll see outdoors over the next two days.

  4. 13:00

    Lunch at Kaleiçi Meyhanesi

    ~60 min

Head back into the old town to this Balıkpazarı Sokak institution. Order a spread of cold mezes — stuffed vine leaves, smoked aubergine, tangy white cheese — and let the kitchen decide which regional classic follows. The atmosphere is convivial and unforced.

  5. 14:30

    Konyaaltı Beach & Shoreline Walk

    ~90 min

Antalya's long western shore stretches beneath the Taurus foothills with the city skyline behind you and open Mediterranean ahead. The shingle beach is clean and the promenade walkable end-to-end; take your time and let the afternoon sun do the rest.

    Konyaaltı Beach & Shoreline Walk
  6. 16:30

Hıdırlık Tower & the Old Harbour Cliffs

    ~60 min

At the southern tip of Kaleiçi, this squat Roman tower on the cliff edge dates to the 2nd century and was likely used as a lighthouse. From the surrounding park you look straight down into the old Roman harbour far below — one of the most dramatic vantage points on the entire coast.

  7. 19:30

    Dinner at Vanilla

    ~90 min

On Hesapçı Sokak in the heart of the old town, Vanilla pairs refined technique with serious seafood and steaks. After a day spent beside the water, it's a fitting way to close — dishes that make the most of what the Mediterranean supplies.

  8. 21:30

    Nightcap at Asi Bar

    ~75 min

Walk a few streets to Yenikapı Sokak where Asi Bar's sharp design and craft cocktail list draw a style-conscious local crowd. A well-mixed drink in a handsome room is a perfectly good reason to be somewhere.

Day 2

  1. 08:00

    Early Breakfast & Transit South

    ~30 min

Grab a quick breakfast near your accommodation, then arrange a taxi or rental car for the drive south along the D400 coastal road toward Phaselis. The journey through the pine-forested slopes of the Taurus takes around an hour.

  2. 09:30

    Phaselis

    ~120 min

Founded by Rhodian colonists in the 7th century BC, Phaselis occupies a narrow pine-covered headland with three separate bays. You can walk Roman streets, a colonnaded main avenue, and theatre ruins — and then step directly into the sea from the ancient harbour walls. It is one of the rare places where archaeology and swimming coexist without contradiction.

    Phaselis
  3. 12:00

    Olympos Beydağları National Park

    ~60 min

Phaselis sits within the boundaries of this expansive coastal national park, so the surrounding landscape — Taurus peaks, cedar forest, turquoise coves — is part of the same experience. Spend time on the headland trails before the midday heat peaks.

    Olympos Beydağları National Park
  4. 13:30

    Lunch at Aynalı

    ~60 min

Back toward the city, stop at Aynalı for seafood-focused regional cooking where the catch of the day is prepared simply and without fuss. After a morning of ruins and salt water, there's real pleasure in a plate that lets the fish speak for itself.

  5. 15:30

    Kesik Minare

    ~45 min

Back in Kaleiçi, the 'Broken Minaret' mosque is one of the old town's most visually arresting structures — a building that has been, in succession, a Roman temple, a Byzantine church, and an Ottoman mosque, each layer still readable in the stonework.

    Kesik Minare
  6. 16:30

    Free Wander: Kaleiçi Backstreets

    ~60 min

Let yourself get mildly lost in the narrow lanes of the old quarter — Ottoman timber houses, bougainvillea spilling over stone walls, the occasional cat on a warm step. No agenda required.

  7. 19:00

    Dinner at Puding Restaurant

    ~90 min

On Mermerli Sokak, Puding bridges Italian and regional Mediterranean traditions in ways that feel genuinely considered rather than forced. A good place to linger over a final meal before the evening shifts gear.

  8. 21:00

    Live Music at Kayip Akustikhane

    ~90 min

Close the trip at this acoustic-focused venue where live music is taken seriously and the room fills with people who are actually listening. No backing tracks, no spectacle — just a good band in a good room, which is more than enough.
