Day 1
- 08:00
Arrive & Set Down
~30 minCheck into your Amman base — ideally somewhere in the western districts for easy access to the day's route south and west. Leave bags, grab water, and set off early to beat the midday heat.
- 08:30
Umm ar-Rasas
~90 minStart the day at one of Jordan's lesser-visited UNESCO sites — a walled Roman-Byzantine garrison town whose mosaic floors rival anything in the region. The 8th-century church mosaics here depict cities of the Holy Land in extraordinary detail, a cartographic obsession that prefigures the more famous Madaba map. Arrive early and you may have the site almost to yourself.
- 10:30
Transit to Madaba & Mesha Stele
~60 minDrive north to Madaba and seek out the Mesha Stele — or rather its cast, housed locally — one of the most significant Iron Age inscriptions ever found, recording King Mesha of Moab's victories in the 9th century BC. It grounds the entire landscape in deep pre-Christian history before you step into the Byzantine churches.

- 12:30
Lunch at Levant Restaurant
~75 minPull up a chair in Madaba or head back toward Amman for lunch at Levant Restaurant, where heritage Levantine recipes — layered, aromatic, and generously portioned — are exactly what the morning's history deserves. Order the mezze spread and let the afternoon settle in.
- 14:30
Mount Nebo — View Across the Valley
~90 minFrom the ridge of Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have looked out over the Promised Land he would never enter, the Jordan Valley unfolds below in extraordinary clarity — the Dead Sea a silver plate, the West Bank hills beyond, and on clear days, the faint skyline of Jerusalem. The memorial church here preserves some of the finest Byzantine mosaic floors in the Middle East, full of pastoral and hunting scenes that feel almost playful against the weight of the location.
- 20:00
Evening Drinks at Dali
~90 minBack in Amman, decompress at Dali on Niqula Ghnema — an art-tinged bar with creative cocktails and an eclectic crowd. It's the right kind of low-key ending to a day saturated with history: good drinks, quirky decor, and no pressure to be anywhere.
